Copper

A soft, highly ductile metal chosen almost exclusively for its unmatched electrical and thermal conductivity.

Example: machined Copper

What is it?

Chosen almost exclusively for one property: unmatched electrical and thermal conductivity among common CNC metals.

Key behavior

Extremely ductile and conductive, but soft compared to the other metals here — not picked for structural strength.

Why choose it

When the part's job is conducting electricity or transferring heat, not carrying mechanical load.

Applications

Bus bars, electrical connectors, heat-transfer components, RF shielding.

Machining notes

Ductile and gummy under a dull tool — needs sharp, high-rake tooling to avoid burring and to get a clean cut rather than a smeared one. In practice that means connector contacts and terminals, and busbars and current-carrying parts for EV programmes.
