A mechanical blasting process using glass beads to smooth a part's surface into a uniform matte texture.

What is Bead Blasting?

A mechanical surface treatment where fine glass beads are propelled at a part's surface under air pressure, producing a uniform matte texture.

How it works

Glass beads are blasted at the part in a controlled cabinet. The beads' rounded shape (unlike sharp abrasive media) smooths the surface rather than cutting into it, removing tool marks and producing a consistent satin/matte finish across the whole part.

  • Removes visible tool marks and machining lines
  • Uniform, consistent matte appearance
  • Often used as a prep step before anodizing or plating for a more even final finish

Applications

Common as a standalone cosmetic finish or as prep work before a subsequent finish like anodizing or plating.
