What is Heat Staking (Inserts)?

Embeds a metal insert, like a threaded bushing, into a plastic part to create a durable, reusable fastening point that plastic threads alone can't provide.

How it works

A heated tip presses the metal insert into a pre-molded or drilled hole in the plastic, locally melting the surrounding plastic so it flows around the insert's knurled or grooved exterior. The plastic cools and solidifies around the insert, locking it in place mechanically.

Benefits

  • Gives a plastic part a metal-threaded fastening point that can be assembled and disassembled repeatedly without stripping
  • Stronger and more wear-resistant than threads molded directly into plastic

Applications

Any plastic assembly that needs a screw-in fastening point meant to be serviced or removed more than once.
